CARE LINE - A Tyne & Wear Model of a Caring Response
What is Care Line?
Care Line is a pre planned system which covers short, medium and long term social and psychological support for disaster victims, their families and friends within the Tyne and Wear area. The Sunderland Care Line team is made up of trained staff and volunteers from the public, private and voluntary sectors.
How Many Care Line Schemes across Tyne and Wear?
There are schemes across Tyne and Wear area. The schemes are Sunderland City Council, Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, and North Tyneside Council.
Who does Care Line work with?
Care Line would work in conjunction with the following groups: Tyne and Wear Emergency Planning Unit, Local Health Authorities, Adult Services, Emergency Services. Care Line may also work along side Sunderland Counselling Services, British Red Cross, Salvation Army, Cruse Bereavement Care, St Johns Ambulance, Victims Support, Rotary, RAYNET, WRVS, Clergy and Faith groups.
What could Care Line Provide?
Care Line could provide the following services:
Immediate Care
- Support at designated Centres
- Listening Skills
- Hand out leaflets
Medium Term Care
- Continue immediate care
- Face to face counselling
- Initiate support groups
- Referrals
Long Term Care
- Continue medium term care
- Support at inquests/public enquiries
- Work with key survivor groups
- Specialist referrals
- Support at anniversaries
How do we care for our staff and Volunteers?
All staff and volunteers of Care Line will have a support network around them which could include the following: Personal counselling, Supervision, Team Support, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Management Support. What are the future plans for Care Line?
Care Line will continue to change and evolve according to the latest research and best practices always adapting with what is currently acceptable in accordance to our Fund raisers and Management at Sunderland Counselling Service.
