Sunderland Advocacy For Empowerment (SAFE)
What is Advocacy?
Citizen advocacy is a one to one partnership between a trained volunteer citizen advocate and a person who is not in a good position to exercise his or her rights. An advocate's role is to ensure that the person has a say in what is happening, and what is important to them i.e. about their treatment or services they receive. An advocate is about supporting a person to state a case, influencing decisions, ending assumptions, redressing the balance of power and being more aware of and exercising rights. The advocate could accompany the partner to Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (MAPPVA) strategy meetings and support the person through the MAPPVA process if appropriate.
What do we provide?
